Gopakumar Menon is the Executive Director of Nityata River Otter Conservancy (Nityata), a volunteer group comprising students and researchers that was founded in 2013.  The objective of Nityata is to focus on the protection of otters and otter habitat in the Cauvery River and its tributaries / headwaters. He also coordinates the Indian Otter Network, a closed Facebook group comprising those who work on otter conservation or live in close proximity to known otter habitat.  The objective of this group is to exchange information on species’ behaviour, possible range extensions, and best practices in otter conservation.
