Abhishek Jamalabad holds a Master’s degree in marine biology, and is interested mainly in the marine mammals of Indian waters and contiguous seas, and in the fisheries of these regions. His primary research interest lies in studying how marine mammals interact with fishing gear, and understanding the implications these interactions have on both sides. He is currently engaged in a research project looking into such interactions between small cetaceans and the coastal purse seine fishery around Karwar, Karnataka. Additionally, he works towards documenting local traditional knowledge of marine mammals, and hopes to contribute towards increasing public participation in documenting cetaceans.
