I photographed this grasshopper on a visit to the wilderness on the outskirts of Bangalore, in 2021. I had my father, Mr Satish H and Arjun Haarith, a photographer, for company.

While exploring the area, we came upon a grasshopper perched on a stalk adorned by pretty Stachyterpheta sp. flowers. After some record shots, we discussed about various other options and techniques to make the image better. With the help of Arjun, we brainstormed different lighting techniques that we could use for this kind of insect and back-lighting was one of them.

We achieved this effect by using two flashes and highlighted the subjects in a way to bring out the subtle rim lighting. I am grateful to Arjun for guiding me to understand such lighting techniques.

The icing on the cake was when I won “Young Photographer” category award at the Nature inFocus Photography Contest 2021.
