Shishir Rao is an engineer-turned-ecologist. He studies tropical river ecology in the Western Ghats with a focus on understanding the impacts of flow alteration on river biodiversity. He is particularly fascinated by herpetofauna and is interested in the conservation of smaller taxa. He has a Master’s degree in wildlife biology and conservation from the NCBS- CWS/WCS-India Master’s program. He co-organises Café Oikos, a science communication initiative in Bengaluru, and posts as @Raorchestes on Instagram.
