Cristina Mittermeier is a Mexican-born marine biologist and photographer who specialises in conservation issues surrounding the ocean and indigenous cultures. As a writer and a photographer for the past 25 years, her work centers on the delicate balance between human well-being and healthy ecosystems. Cristina has edited 24 coffee-table books on conservation issues and her work has been published in prestigious scientific publications including ‘Science and Nature’, as well as in more popular publications and magazines. She is the founder and former president of the ‘International League of Conservation Photographers’ (ILCP), and was recently recognised as one of the world’s ‘Top 40 Most Influential Outdoor Photographers’ by Outdoor Magazine, and is the recipient of the 2011 ‘Nature’s Best/Smithsonian Conservation Photographer of the Year’ award and the ‘North American Nature Photographer’s Association 2010 Mission Award’.

While speaking to contributors of JLR Explore in Bangalore, Cristina gave valuable insights into her thought and work process while shooting and editing a photo-story.
